Michigan Library Can Serve Alcohol

A Michigan library is permitted to serve alcohol.

Libraries across the country are struggling with funding issues. The Ferndale Public Library in Michigan has initiated a novel solution.

The library has recently been permitted to serve alcohol at numerous special events. The move will generate extra income, allowing the library to pay for additional programs and services.

City Council members stress that the library must seek permission and be granted approval for each time an event is scheduled where booze will be sold. With that measure in place, it prevents the book center from excessively using the new privilege to bring in extra bucks.

The library director states “Our revenues have declined every year for the last several years, mostly because of declining property values in the city. But at the same time, our demand and use have continued to increase.”

Although not everyone is in favor of the decision, it will provide a financial gain for educational purposes.
