A Forever Recovery Sponsors Halloween Candy Mountain in Flint Michigan

A Forever Recovery believes that, while our main priority is the treatment of addiction to drugs and alcohol, rehabilitation from chemical dependency is only a part of the solution. In the battle against the epidemic of substance abuse, we believe that the best place to start is in the community. Through various charitable contributions, community support events and functions centered on encouraging education, athletics and art in today’s youth, we strive to carry our message of freedom from addiction beyond the walls of our recovery center. By reaching out to as many children and families as we possibly can, our goal is to show kids that there are healthier and more positive alternative to using drugs or alcohol.

One such event, called “Candy Mountain”, was held on Halloween at the Word of Life Christian Church in Flint, MI. As one of the sponsors of this event, A Forever Recovery, with the help of former Detroit Lion Herman Moore, was able to help bring a safe and fun environment to the children and families that call this local area “home”. Like many of the urban areas in the country, Flint was hit very hard by the effects of the recent U.S. economic crisis, and has struggled to bounce back. The poverty level is extremely high in Flint, and, sadly, it has brought with it a similarly elevated crime rate. The “Candy Mountain” event created a safe and secure setting for the families in the area to enjoy an exciting and carefree evening of costumes, fun and, of course, candy. Lots and lots of candy.

There was another motive behind “Candy Mountain”. The group that coordinated the event, Community Adults Urging Student Excellence, or The CAUSE, is an organization that promotes education by providing additional monetary support to the severely underfunded local school system. George Wilkinson, the Pastor of Word of Life and a member of The CAUSE, shared a little with us about the goals of this organization. “We’re pouring back into organizations that are about educational excellence,” he tells us. “That’s going to provide them with the resources that they need to help our children develop, grow and mature in a progressive manner.” A portion of the proceeds from the event will be redirected to various non-profit organizations that support education and academic growth.

A Forever Recovery believes that, through supporting events like “Candy Mountain”, we can help the children of today become the strong and effective leaders of tomorrow. By teaming up with organizations like The CAUSE, we try to strengthen the community and offer today’s youth the hope and promise of a brighter future.
