Alcohol fountain being built in Batumi, Georgia – as part of the news and politics series by GeoBeats.
Many dreams are coming true in the country of Georgia, where plans for an outdoor liquor shooting fountain are in place.
According to RIA Novosti, the special fountain project will be starting in summer, 2012 in Batumi, Georgia. Once every week, the fountain will spew a stream of the Georgian national liquor, commonly known as chacha or ‘grape vodka’.
Once completed it will join the company of many other unusual fountains around the world. There’s the mermaid milking herself in Italy.
Or how about the Blood Fountain in Wales? The waters are dyed red for the celebration of St. David’s Day. Then there’s the crystal head fountain in Austria.
Bern, Switzerland has the ogre fountain which depicts an ogre snacking on little children. Tap fountains such as this one in Spain also draw quite a bit of attention.
Back in Batumi, Georgia, the fountain will dispense alcohol in roughly 15 minute intervals giving local drink makers an opportunity to showcase their products! Many native Georgians produce their own chacha. It is a clear liquor and quite strong. Locals claim it also has medicinal properties.
It seems Georgia is breaking ground in the alcohol flowing fountains, hopefully leading to more around the world!
