The thing is, there aren’t really any other definitions to use at this time, except for terms like “high” bottom alcoholic and “functioning” alcoholic. What would at least help with this is to get the message out there that addiction isn’t a weakness. We need to remove the shame and stigma associated with addiction so people with a drug or alcohol dependency aren’t afraid to seek help. I call myself a “recovered” alcoholic, and it turned out to be one of the best things to ever happen to me in my life.
