Alcoholism Is Not A Disease

I wrote this article 2 days after I posted this blog as a follow-up. It was written using highly researched facts taken from respectable, legitimate sources. Read on… ————————————————————————————————- Alcoholism is an addictive behavior with multiple bio-psycho-social causes and consequences including poor decision making and greater risk of actual physical disease. Alcoholism begins with the choice to start drinking. To say otherwise would be as if you claimed the beer came before the brewer. Belief in the disease model of alcoholism created by Dr. Benjamin Rush in the late 1700’s (an extremely dated model) predicts greater chance of relapse. This is according to a recent prospective treatment outcome study by the University of New Mexico funded by National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). Loss of control drinking in alcoholics is triggered more by psychological factors than by the biological effects of alcohol which come after drinking, not before.
