Researchers found consuming caffeinated energy drinks may desensitize users to the euphoric effects of cocaine. 25 (UPI) — Drinking caffeinated alcoholic beverages produces similar effects as cocaine in adolescent brains, researchers from Purdue University found in a study. Scientists studied the effects of the controversial beverages in adolescent mice. The drinks contained as much as 10 times the amount of caffeine as conventional soda marketed to teenagers.
