How Much Alcohol is Ok? – as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. It is definitely not necessary to give up alcohol completely. Alcohol can be worked into a healthy diet. The recommendation is one drink for women per day, and two drinks for men. That would be… the drink would be equivalent to a twelve-ounce beer, five ounces of wine, or an once and a half of hard liquor. Now, if you are not going to drink your liquor as a shot, then that would include a mixed drink, so a lot of times where people get into trouble is the mixers, and a lot of mixed drinks are either made with lots of sweet liquors and of course the mixers or juices or sodas, things like that that add a lot of sugar. So, good choices as far as drink mixers would be club soda, diet soda, water, light fruit juices, low-calorie fruit juices, vegetable juice, lemon and lime juices, things like that that will not add a lot of calories to your beverage. And when you drink alcohol, try to drink it with a meal, and try to drink it slowly, and just make sure that you check with your pharmacist or your doctor if you are taking any medications, make sure those are medications that are safe to be taken with alcohol, otherwise it could increase the danger. It could amplify the effects of the alcohol and it could make you sick, so it is a good idea to check. But other than that, just as long as you do not exceed the recommended amount, alcohol can be consumed as a healthy part of your diet.
