Jeff Malmberg’s film Marwencol is a portrait of the artist Mark Hogencamp, a former alcoholic who was beaten into a coma after a night at a bar. Hogencamp recovered with little memory of his past, and as a form of self-therapy, he began reconstructing a new imaginary life through dolls, creating an elaborate drama set in the fictional Belgian war-time town of Marwencol, a simulacrum of his own town of Kingston, NY
