STEPS EIGHT AND NINE “Give everyone what you owe him——” Ro 13: 7 “Let no debt remain outstanding—–” Ro 13: 8 “—–they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds.” Ac 26: 20 “Therefore this is what the Lord says: `If you repent I will restore you that you may serve me; if you utter worthy, not worthless, words, you will be my spokesman.” Jer 15: 19 MADE A LIST OF ALL PERSONS WE HAD HARMED AND BECAME WILLING TO MAKE AMENDS TO THEM ALL. MADE DIRECT AMENDS TO SUCH PEOPLE WHEREVER POSSIBLE, ACCEPT WHERE TO DO SO WOULD INJURE THEM OR OTHERS. The Eighth Step list of people he has harmed by his conduct was prepared by the addicted person when he did his Fourth Step. He also began the process of becoming entirely ready to set matters straight wherever possible. Now he must review his list to make sure that he has omitted no one and he will usually find that there are additional people who must be added because, by the nature of the Fourth Step, some are often not covered. When these people are added to the list, he must then decide what amends should be made, keeping in mind that he can do nothing to harm others when making amends. When the list is thus completed, he must meet with his spiritual advisor and, together they will agree upon the actions to be taken. He then must commence to make his amends. The Ninth Step is the fourth of the spiritual tools to be learned and used by the addicted person. This use will continue for his lifetime. If …
