R2R or rode2recovery is a 1000km bicycle ride by participants of a Salvos drug & alcohol REHAB. Our aim is to educate high school students as we stop at their schools along the 1000km route about the pitfalls of drug and alcohol addiction by sharing our life stories, how we came to be the way we are, what we have lost and how we now have to work hard to get it back. To promote a healthy lifestyle and help these young adults understand that self medicating is not the answer, there are other ways to be accepted by yourself and your peers. But most of all, let them know that it’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye or… their life! We leave Morisset and head up toward Tamworth via Singleton & Merriwa. Then across from Tamworth through Walcha to Wauchope & Port Macquarie. Down from Port Macquarie to Taree, Gloucester and Raymond Terrace. then Maitland and Kurri Kurri eventually ending our journey at Dooralong, at a brand new rehabilitation facility the Salvos are opening soon…
